That's What She Did Podcast

Oct 1, 2018

In this episode, Analise Harris, CEO of the nonprofit Curls On The Block, shares how her experiences as a special education teacher inspired her to start an after-school program to support girls of color in feeling empowered turned into a nonprofit and entirely new path in her own life.

We talk about how Curls On The Block is empowering girls to embrace their natural hair while introducing them to STEAM careers because fewer than 20% of STEAM jobs will be filled by women.

We chat the politics of hair and how that impacts women, we bond over our own curls and touch on how colorism is a very real issue that needs to be addressed within communities of color.

This week's Woman Of Impact is Angela Davis.

Analisa discusses how Angela Davis was an inspiring force in her own life, the impact Ms. Davis has had on gender studies, specifically the intersection between class and gender, and why the next generation of leaders needs to know about her.
